NiGHT RATING PRIVILEGES

  • Part of the Commercial Pilot License

The night rating allows to fly after sunset and before sunrise in good weather conditions. It can allow you to safely return from a cross country without the pressure to land before dark. Or you can just fly by a full moon night, enjoying the peaceful and smooth air around.

A night rating is an easy way to extend your flyable time !

For those who are going for a Commercial Pilot License, the night rating is already part of the program.

NiGHT RATING REQUIREMENTS​

​​Ground School

No Ground School mandatory (except pre-flight and post-flight briefings required)

Flight training time
  • 15 hours total time including:
    – 5 hours solo (including 10 take-offs and landings)
    – 10 hours dual (including 5 hours of night flying with 2 hours of night cross country and 5 hours of instrument)
  • No Written test
  • No Flight test

Those requirements are the minimums set by transport Canada. On average, students achieve the required level within those minimums.

COST & DURATION OF TRAINING

Training is at student’s pace and convenience. The course can take 1-2 weeks full time, 1 month part time (at least 2 lessons a week is recommended)

Duration and cost of the training may vary depending on each student availability, on the amount of self-study provided and also on the weather conditions.

Fuel cost for flight training vary and is billed based on fuel rate at the pump.
On average, the airplane burns 30 Liters/hour of Avgas at $2/Liter. So $60/h of flight.
Add around $780 for fuel cost.
